Good afternoon everyone!
I had a beautiful time away, and I am so glad to be back home in front of our family computer to tell you all about it! I am going to do a post on each of my trips but the Father/Daughter conference is what I am going to tell you about today.
Even though the weather was a bit disagreeable the entire weekend was lovely! From the speakers, to the high tea, to visiting with friends, and just getting to spend time with my sister and my dad made last weekend a time I will never forget!
All the speakers were equally wonderful but I always enjoy hearing the Botkin sisters. Their speech was titled " What My Father Taught Me About Boys". They told us about the two types of young ladies that are prevalent within and outside of the home school community. The first type of young lady is flirtatious and loud, seeking attention from young men around her. The other type purposely avoids boys or even making eye contact with them. I have seen both kinds of young girls and neither one is appropriate or functional. Instead they shared how we need to view young men around us as brothers, not future or possible suitors. They said even though we should not be as familiar with other boys as we might be with our own brothers we still need to encourage and pray for the young men we know. I have lately been concerned at how I see girls in the home school community that are loud and silly around boys and even though they might not be technically dating they are giving their hearts away to young men who more than likely will not be their husbands. I am grateful to say that both my parents have diligently trained me in what my conduct is to be around the young men in my community. My mother has always told me to be friendly to all and single out none! The older I get, I appreciate more and more how I have been saved from immature boy girl relationships that so many young people are submerged in.
I took LOTS of pictures. Here are a few from our weekend.

I love your skirts! That is so neat that you have had the opportunity to go to this retreat more than once! I would be super excited to meet the Bauchams, not to mention all the other sweet girls there! So glad you had a great weekend to spend with your dad and sister. What a treat!
Hi McKenzie!!
What a wonderful post on the retreat! I LOVE your pictures. :) Well - except you and I look kind of, um, *green* in that one picture! :D Haha!
I was wearing sneakers too!! Daddy and I actually braved the rain (It wasn't that bad) on the first day and walked outside with our umbrellas and a camera through the Overlook azalea garden. ;) However, I don't make a habit of wearing sneakers with skirts... they just don't seem to go together on me. :D
I would LOVE to get together with you and your family sometime!! I will have to email you and we can discuss it further then. :)
Blessings!
Julia
