School Day's...

"Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ."

2 Corinthians 1:2

Wow! Where do I begin? We have had a rather crazy last few weeks and so much has happened.

I guess the biggest schedule shifter as of late was starting back home school. Because momma's baby is due in September and I will have to take some time off, I started some of my schooling in July. I am immensely enjoying all of my curriculum this year! Momma and Daddy put a lot of effort into finding the right curriculum for each subject and their efforts are really paying off! I absolutely love homeschooling and would not trade my teacher for anything in the world! :) Because my father works as an assistant superintendent in the public school system he has often run into people through the years that have greatly pressured him to put us in school. One man in his previous school system seemed very concerned for our social well-being. For those of you who have not met me, I am a social butterfly!:) I often say that I can carry on a conversation with an eighty year old as easily as I can with a two year old. So back to my story... Daddy decided to introduce me to this man who so passionately believed I was being deprived of socialization! I was eleven at the time and I remember sitting at the school where dad was the principal. The man (who I later learned was the school superintendent) began questioning me about various things. We continued this conversation while I had not the slightest idea of who he was. When he was finally satisfied, he went up to my parents across the room and said, "That girl of yours is sharp!" lol! I guess he was expecting me to crawl under the nearest table. Poor man! He didn't bother my dad anymore after that about putting me in one of their elementary schools! Good 'ole "home education"! :) I realize that home education may not be feasible for everyone, but I am eternally grateful for my parent's sacrifice.

Here is a list of the curriculum I am doing this year: Government/Economics 2nd half of year, Bible, Typing, Algebra 2, Home Economics (an actual curriculum - not to mention "real life" Home EC!!), Learn To Write The Novel Way (a writing and grammar program where you actually write a novel), and reading various books that my parents want me to cover this year. Currently I am reading "Martin Luther" and "Bede - Ecclesiastical History of the English People".

I would love to hear stories of some of your home school experiences or adventures! What are you studying in school this year?

If you would like to share please do so!

Blessings to you all...

One of the first conferences I attended found me at a lunchen with various leaders of Oconee County in 2005. My table was one of the conference facilitators, the county planner, the county school supertendent along with several other students.

I asked the supertendent what kind of home school population was in the county. His response was basically, "Our schools are very good. The only home schoolers we have are religious zellots who are very weird." Well, the county planner, picking up on the reason for my question, waited a few minutes, then went around the table asking where we had all gone to high school. Let's just say the look on his face, as he cleaned up his spewed tea, was priceless. :-)
