Happy Memorial Day!

Hope you all have a safe and happy Memorial Day! I am thankful for those that have fought and died for our country! Praying that we never take that for granted!

Fun in the kitchen:
I love to try new things in the kitchen. I made bagels a couple of weeks ago and they actually turned out! It inspired me to do something else. I decided to make doughnuts! I made them with whole wheat and they were great. My family didn't have any trouble finishing off the whole batch in two days!

Doughnut Recipe:

1 1/2 cups hot water

1 cup cold milk

(The resulting temp. will be lukewarm, so as not to kill the yeast)

3 eggs

1/3 cup oil

1/3 cup honey

4 1/2 tsp. instant yeast

6-7 1/4 cups freshly milled flour

1 Tbs salt

Combine water, milk, honey and eggs. (in Bosch or other mixer) Add yeast and about 5 cups of flour. Mix on medium speed until well blended. Add salt. Continue mixing adding the flour 1/2 cup at a time until dough pulls away from sides and center. Knead about 5 minutes

Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick. Cut with doughnut cutter. Place on greased cookie sheet to rise. Fry in hot oil being careful not to burn (tricky part the first time around!)

I made a glaze and poured over mine. As good as Krispy Kreme! :>)
