What Modesty is Not...

This is a excerpt from James Spiegel's summary on modesty from "The Beauty of Modesty" by David & Dianne Vaughan. I received this book for Christmas from my parents and have just begun reading it.

"Modesty is not bashfulness. The modest person freely chooses to keep certain things private and he does so out of respect for others as well as himself.... Whereas the bashful person finds revealing himself in public uncomfortable, the modest person keeps a thing out of public view for the sake of others, even if he would personally be comfortable revealing more.

"Modesty is not shame. Modesty is motivated by self-respect and appreciation for one's own body, and it's because of this bodily self-respect that the modest individual keeps it private."

When I read this I thought it was very good. While in town today with my mother, we went into a store and I noticed a young woman that was not only dressed inappropriately, but also was very unkempt. It made me think about that quote. We as Christians have a responsibility to dress both modestly and neatly! Just a thought....
Goodnight!

Hey Mckenzie,
The testimony of modesty you wrote is very aspiring to to young ladies and women. In today's society many people are letting their moral standards down.To me,people who dress immodestly do not have respect for themselves and others. This is very well written,Mckenzie!

It always helps me to remember that being modest isn't just about how we dress, but rather it is an issue of the heart that should show through by what we wear.
Sounds like a good book!
