In America

The following is a poem from my U.S. History curriculum this year (that by the way, I absolutely LOVE!). I thought this was thought provoking and will make you cry. I would like to hear what you think. McKenzie

In America

By John Notgrass (2005)

Three thousand precious lives were taken yesterday.

I doubt you even heard it on the news.

It's a dirty secret no one wants to hear:

In America we have the right to choose.

In America we have the right to say just what we feel.

In America we have the right to make up what is real.

In America we have the right to kill an unborn child.

Do you really wonder why America has been defiled?

The Lord came to us as a baby in the womb.

He did not scorn the helplessness and shame.

Now a human child's endangered from the start.

We've forgotten why the Savior came.

In America we have the right to say just what we feel

In America we have the right to make up what is real.

In America we have the right to kill an unborn child.

Do you really wonder why America has been defiled?

It's enough for me to look a baby in the eyes--

No exceptions, no excuses, no attempts at compromise.

In America we need to speak with wisdom what is true.

In America we need to look with an eternal view.

In America we need to welcome every unborn child.

The time has come to praise the holy name we have defiled.

A woman chose life for her baby yesterday.
I doubt you even heard it on the news.

Wow. I like the end. It reminds me that even in such a defiled state, there's still hope. That in turn reminds me of God.

Guess you know how I feel. I have spent the last 16 years of my life fighting for babies to live. We are in desperate need of help at the center and I know there are many people who have the time to help but don't want to get involved. It would be much easier on me and my health to stay home in my comfort zone but I just can't do it. Someday I hope it is where you will be able to volunteer and help save a baby's life. It is a wonderful blessing. Love you for your strength, maturity, and courage. Gran

Hi! I'm Madison. I found your blog on Julia's.
Although it is sad, it is true. Helpless babies die all the time because a woman 'doesn't want them.' That subject needs lot and lots of prayers.
Thanks for posting the truth of the matter though. We need more truth on the subject of abortion.

Great poem, the end is a relief... I can't believe how many people out there agree with the concept of murdering an innocent child before it has the chance to be born.
Thanks for posting this, Mckenzie.

Come see my post on Biblical Femininity...
